Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (WHEEL OF FORTUNE AND FANTASY, ASAKO I & II) reaches new, exquisite heights with DRIVE MY CAR, one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, and Japan's submission to the Academy Awards for Best International Film consideration. Two years after his wife's unexpected death, renowned theatre director Yusuke Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima) travels to Hiroshima to mount a production of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya. Due to a theatre company policy, Yasuke is assigned the quiet driver Misaki Watari (Toko Miura), who chauffeurs him the long distance to and from daily rehearsals. The two form a delicate bond, born out of their individual grief, and their shared connection of the open road. Adapted from Haruki Murakami's short story, DRIVE MY CAR is an intimate, engrossing epic about communication, creativity, and relationships, and signals Hamaguchi as one of the finest filmmakers working today.
