In Audrey Diwan's adaptation of the acclaimed memoir by Annie Ernaux, Anne is a bright, young student in 1960s France, whose ambition and intellect are her ticket to finishing her studies, and escaping the constraints of her working-class upbringing. When an unplanned pregnancy threatens to hold her back, and with abortion still illegal, Anne is forced to act. At the risk of shame, pain and even prison, Anne chooses to take control of her freedom, and her future. Winner of the top prize at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
